Vision Assist

Accessibility statement

This website is built to be used without sight.

Vision Assist exists for blind and partially sighted people, so this website must work with screen readers, keyboards, magnifiers and high-contrast settings.

Accessibility first

Built for the people it’s meant to help.

A tool for blind and low-vision people should be easy to use without sight. This site is designed to work with screen readers, keyboards, magnifiers and high-contrast settings.

  • Full keyboard access

Every control works with Tab, Enter and Space. A skip link jumps straight to the content.

  • Screen-reader friendly

Real headings and landmarks. Detection results are listed as text, and changes are announced.

  • High contrast

A black-and-yellow mode with thicker borders. Standard colours meet WCAG AA contrast.

  • Scalable text

Make all text larger from the Display menu, or use your browser zoom — layouts reflow.

  • Reduced motion

Follows your system setting by default, with an on-page switch to turn animations off.

  • Plain language

Short sentences and clear words. Technical detail is there, but never required.

Our standard

Aiming for WCAG 2.2 level AA.

How we test

  • Automated checks with axe-core and Lighthouse on every major page.
  • Keyboard-only testing of navigation, menus, the demo and the video.
  • Automated browser tests of the sign-up form on every change: labels, error messages, focus, keyboard use and contrast.
  • Checks at 200% zoom and at phone widths, with no sideways scrolling.
  • Dark and light themes, a high-contrast colour mode and three text sizes, saved on your device.

Known limitations

  • The field-test video has words burned into the picture. A captions file and a full text transcript are provided alongside it.
  • The live demo needs a modern browser with WebAssembly. Spoken alerts depend on your browser’s built-in voice.
  • Bounding boxes in the demo are visual. Every detection is also listed as text for screen readers.
